BRITISH COMPUTER SOCIETY'S FORTRAN SPECIALIST GROUP

The next meeting of the BCS Fortran Specialist Group will be

held on Thursday 3rd September 1992 from 10.30am to 4.30pm at the

Blacknest Data Analysis Centre, Brimpton, Near Reading, Berkshire.

Blacknest is approximately in the middle of the triangle formed by

the towns of Reading, Newbury, and Basingstoke and is about 2

miles west of Aldermaston. A map is printed overleaf for those

travelling by car. For those travelling by train please contact

John Young to arrange transport from either Reading or Basingstoke

stations.

The morning meeting will be normal business and will include

a report on the recent WG5 meeting as well as a report from the

X3J3 representative. An early break for lunch is proposed so that

members can adjourn to the famous Pineapple Inn for light refresh-

ments. The afternoon meeting will be a series of short presenta-

tions by members of the Blacknest Group followed by an introduc-

tion to the NAG Fortran 90 Compiler which will be demonstrated

during the day. After a break for tea there will be an optional

tour of the Blacknest facilities.

Blacknest is presently part of the Ministry of Defence and

provides seismological expertise to the Government for the UN

Conference on Disarmament in Geneva as well as being a world-

renowned seismological research group. Fortran has been in use at

Blacknest for over 30 years being introduced by T L van Raalte who

is a former member of the Group. Blacknest was the first group at

Aldermaston to use FORTRAN IV and we hope to be the first to use

Fortran 90.

Please bring this notice to the attention of any colleagues

likely to be interested: we particularly welcome newcomers to the

Group whether members of BCS or not.
